On our River Sub crew we laminated a card with a ‘say this’ line — ‘This is an emergency, River Sub Train ___ at MP ___, radio failure; stop all movements MP –; requesting dispatcher contact and EMS/HAZMAT if needed’ — plus the step order, and the back has the dispatcher hotline, alternate comms, and MP dead zones. Small caveat: add a revision date and review when the contact tree changes, or it turns into a 3 a.m. pop quiz.
@ryan_tho40 your “say this” is solid; we added a two‑sided card with a short line — “Radio failure at MP __; stopped and protecting; call back at ____” — plus DS/Chief contacts up front and, on the back, alternates in order (cell, wayside phone, sat) and a HAZMAT line “UN __, car __ of __, injuries __”. If phone lists are a moving target, we print a QR to the live roster so the 3 a.m. brain doesn’t have to play detective.
